While I understand why AWD is becoming more and more prolific, I still don’t like it. What is wrong with the Cam
ry with a decent set of tires.

Lots of people don’t understand how cars work and think AWD is god, meanwhile they buy what ever cheap all season tire they can grab because they want to save money.
Spend lots of money getting AWD, lose money every time you fill up be of worse fuel economy. Too cheap to have an extra set of wheels and tires for winter.
Also people get super fixated on a car maybe getting stuck in the snow, but don’t think Bout how the right tires help it steer and brake.

This is just silly. It’s only there to appease people who think they can’t drive on snow without AWD.
Now on the other hand... it’s possible there could be people who would have bought a Rav4 for the AWD who will now consider a Camry instead, and for that, I can appreciate it.

Depends on what sort of AWD we’re talking about. I’ve now owned three different AWD cars and all of them felt different. None of my cars use this kind of limp-wristed
AWD system though, so I suspect it’s basically just there to give people who don’t know better the “safety” and “security” that comes with AWD.
Which is bullshit too, as someone who has also driven a FWD car with no ABS or traction control
through the last 14 winters.

As a cheap ass that has been driving FWD for what seems like forever, I agree 100%. I’ve been fortunate enough to live in a city that knows how to plow so my cheap tires haven’t caused any issues bar 2 times in the past 19 years.

An appliance becomes a really good appliance! Don’t need a v6. A light . turbo for +50hp is perfect.

Ha ving an AWD flex, it’s definitely a benefit in crap weather, but, that’s because it’s a for real 5'000 pounds. If the Camry is bloated enough, it'll help, but you may be right on sales. It's just a few more parts to bolt in and software updates.

WTF HOW IS THAT THING SO HEAVY!? Like, I seriously thought you were getting curb weight confused with GVWR or something but no, it’s literally almost 2 and a half tons. HOW!? Our Buick Regal TourX is a half ton lighter, and has only a small amount less room.
That said, there’s no way the Camry will be anything over 4k pounds. They’re too eco-minded for that, and their AWD system isn’t going to be even as functional
as the Flex’s, if I understand correctly.
I also fail to believe AWD is truly a “safety” thing compared with FWD in most vehicles. I think it can be more capable and more fun, but I’ve never gone spearing off the road in my FWD Grand Prix simply due to its driven wheels. Nor has my 2WD really let me down in any reasonable situation. There are only three that come to mind: the time I parked it in
a muddy field at some house party thing, the time I parked it on trees it had just knocked over (long story), and the time I parked it in a cul-de-sac that then got a foot of snow and I had to shovel it out.

Testament: my fwd only 4cyl rav4 was a transformed beast on a full set of snow tires. Unstoppable. And it could stop!

Its suuupperrrr stiff. Corners flat with no twist. I can’t wait to see someone lemons race one. The AWD is weird on it. Half used all seasons (for now) and on the gas will break the back end loose on snow. I’m unsure if I like that. It’s gotta be just sheer mass transfer on cornering. I’m thinking AWD is only good for poorly designed cars. Never heard of the sweeds complaining their rwd Volvo was bad in snow. It rocked! Even without snow tires it was good enough.

Now waiting for Honda and AWD Accord 2.0T manual.....
Pipe dreams but if they some how make one, I will be first in line for one. I would even take an Auto (NOT a CVT)
Having driven and sat in both, the Camry is to heavy and cramped up front for a mid size. The AWD might make it a bit more fun but your adding weight sooo..

I think the biggest problem is that the RAV4 with the same drivetrain gets better fuel economy, from what I heard on the video. To me it’s basically stupid to get the Camry at that point. Also to not use the E-AWD hybrid system was dumb as well.
For all the time and effort Toyota puts into making good vehicles their product choice seem a bit dense at times. I.e going through all the effort to work with BMW on the Supra for cost savings. But then they go and make a crazy powerful 3-cylinder AWD rally compact with no outside help
